Overview
The parish of Saint Peter in Apalit was separated from Calumpit in 1597. The present church, built to plans by Ramon Hermosa after an 1863 earthquake destroyed its predecessor, was completed in 1883; its two bell towers followed in 1896, and it was renovated from 1989.
Inside, the ceilings carry trompe l'oeil paintings by Marcelino Serrano, and the cupola shows the Apocalypse. Since July 22, 2017, the church has kept a fragment of Saint Peter's bones. It is also home base for Apung Iru, the image carried down the river every June.
