Overview
The Augustinian church of Saint Monica was built by Fr. Jose de la Cruz in 1665. An earthquake in 1880 destroyed everything but the belfry, which still stands beside the church rebuilt in a modern style on Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Barangay Parian.
The town and parish were founded on April 24, 1581, and Saint Monica's feast on May 4 is the town fiesta.
