Overview
The Sasmuan Bangkung Malapad Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area, part of the Ramsar-listed Sasmuan Pampanga Coastal Wetlands, is a major stop for migratory waterbirds. The January 2021 Asian Waterbird Census counted more than 80,000 birds of 63 species, and species associated with the area include the Black-faced Spoonbill, Chinese Egret and Far Eastern Curlew.
The wetland lies south of downtown and is reached by boat. No regular public tours or fees are published, so arrange any visit through the Municipality of Sasmuan or its tourism or environment office, and use an authorised boat and guide.
