Palakol Summer Place is a stretch of the Gumain River in Barangay San Jose that locals simply call the Palakol River. It is Floridablanca's favourite place to cool off.
Hours
The municipality opens the area from 6am to 6pm.
When it closes
The river is fed by the mountains, and it rises fast. In August 2026 the LGU closed the area more than once because of high water and strong currents, and a flood swept away about 300 rental huts, most of them owned by indigenous residents who earn from renting them. It reopened on September 14, 2026. If rain has been heavy, check the municipality's website before you set out.
The house rules
- Trash in, trash out: bring your garbage home.
- Follow the instructions of the on-site personnel and rescuers.
- Keep a close eye on children in the water.
What it is like
Under the SCTEX Gumain Bridge the riverbed is a jumble of boulders. Upstream it becomes a calmer pool that deepens as you go, with huts for rent along the bank.
In 2026 the DENR's Pampanga office nominated the river for its R.I.V.E.R.s for Life award, recognising the clean-up and rehabilitation work along it.
