In Kapampangan cooking, frogs, tugak, are food. In 2003, San Fernando decided they deserved a festival.

Pyestang Tugak

Held in October, Pyestang Tugak celebrates Kapampangan frog traditions. There are frog-catching exhibitions, frog races, culinary demonstrations of frog dishes and a street-dance competition.

When to go

The festival is in October; watch the Pyestang Tugak listing for the next date. December brings the city's lanterns, and Holy Week the rites of San Pedro Cutud.
