Overview
The Giant Lantern Festival, or Ligligan Parul, is held every December in San Fernando, the Christmas Capital of the Philippines. Barangays compete with lanterns about 20 feet across, lit by thousands of bulbs that pulse in time to music, a tradition that grew from Bacolor's lubenas processions and goes back to the early 1900s. The competition has been held at Robinsons Starmills since 2008, and the lanterns are later shown around the city through the holidays.
