Magalang has long been known for its confectionery, which locals give as gifts and serve at fiestas.
Pastillas de leche
The town's classic sweet. The best-known name is Carreon's Sweets and Pastries.
Tamarind, the town's new pride
Magalang wants to be the tamarind capital of the Philippines. The Pampanga State Agricultural University grafts and propagates the Aglibut sweet tamarind, which the mayor calls the sweetest in the country. Look for:
- tamarind candies (tamarindo),
- the tamarind shake the town says is unique to Magalang,
- PSAU's tamarind wine, soap, shampoo and conditioner.
The municipality has said it plans a tamarind pasalubong centre. Until then, ask locally where to buy.
