Maximino Hizon was Mexico's general of the revolution. He rallied Kapampangans against Spain under Emilio Aguinaldo, and during the revolution he ordered the execution of the parish priests of Mexico and San Fernando.
Against the Americans
When the Americans replaced Spain, Hizon was made supreme commander of all Philippine forces in Pampanga. He was captured in 1901 and, when he refused to swear loyalty to the United States, was exiled to Guam. He died there on September 1, 1901.
Remembered at home
Mexico honours him with the Maximino Hizon Monument. The Hizon name lives on in the town's heritage too: an ancestral house of the Hizon-Lorenzano family in Parian is today the home of Kusinang Matua, Atching Lillian Borromeo's heritage kitchen.
