Macabebe is one of Pampanga's three coastal towns, on the banks of the Río Grande de Pampanga, about 17 km from San Fernando. It has 25 barangays and about 78,000 residents at the 2020 census.
Its history runs deep: residents fought Spanish forces in 1571, linked to the Battle of Bangkusay, and many later joined the Macabebe Scouts, who helped capture Emilio Aguinaldo in 1901.
The San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish Church was founded in 1575. The town fiesta is on September 10, and Mataguiti and Candelaria hold "libad" boat processions. The local treat is Pan de San Nicolas, a shortbread cookie.
